Good Scientific Practice at HHU

Scientific work is based on fundamental principles which are the same in all disciplines. The first principle amongst these is honesty towards oneself and others. The basic prerequisite for scientific work is the fairness of all researchers. It is here that the University as a place of research, teaching and support of young scientists, has an institutional responsibility. In the light of these considerations, Heinrich Heine University is pursuing the safeguarding of scientific quality standards, in particular integrity and accuracy in research, as a core responsibility of its members and affiliates.
On the basis of these considerations the Rules and Principles for Saveguarding and Good Scientific Practice at HHU (pdf) have been agreed upon.

HHU Commission to ensure good Scientific Practice

Transparent and good scientific practice is essential for any university. By establishing this commission Heinrich Heine University has adopted suitable measures to prevent scientific misconduct and examine each and any reasonable suspicion of such.

For this purpose, a standing commission has been set up which officially looks into any such matters and reports directly to the President’s office. The procedure in front of the commission has no effect on other, legal procedures (e.g. academic, civil or criminal proceedings).
