Before starting her PhD at the Institute of Comparative Psychology at HHU in the group of Prof. Tobias Kalenscher Tina Strombach got a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Maastricht University, Maastricht, The Netherlands, and a Master’s degree in Corporate Management and Economics (CME) at Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen, Germany.

Her field of interest are neuronal processes of social decision-making. Brain scans with test persons showed that there are two areas in the brain that compete during the decision-making: the egoistic part and the empathic part.  How altruistic one makes a decision depends on the relationship between the involved persons. Recently Tina Strombach published her work in the „Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

For her research work she benefited from working in a team of young neuroscientists - “ Concerning the methodologies, the experimental psychology group at HHU is extremely good and within the team there are clear definition of subjects. Furthermore, collaborations with other universities are made very easy.”

In addition Tina has been a member of the „Interdisciplinary Graduate and Research Academy Düsseldorf (iGRAD)“. She took part in several workshops which she thinks “are at the one hand very useful to come in contact with other PhD-students to exchange knowledge and experiences and to reflect the own work in a very objective way. On the other hand they shape the own career development. ”

Tina Strombach will move on to do a Postdoc with the Chair of Marketing at HHU, Prof. Peter Kenning.

Tina Strombach has been interviewed by Mareike Schulz in February 2015.
