A career in science depends above all on the acquisition of research funding. However, good research conditions, mentors and personal strategy are just as important. Within the scope of the Research Funding Days, we want to discuss together which factors have an influence on a successful academic career.

What is important when planning your own (academic) career? How good are your chances of getting a job in Academia? Do you have to go abroad? How do you find mentors? Should you join a research network? Will research and family work out?
HHU academics will discuss these and other questions with anyone who is interested. We will shed light on decision-making processes and options for "Plan A" as well as for the many other possible career paths.

The path to an independent academic career is diverse and there are just as many ways to finance your research group. How do you become a junior research group leader? What needs to be considered? How have successful colleagues achieved funding?
The participants of the panel discussion will present their own funding programmes and answer questions about the respective general conditions.

Learning from experienced academics and exchanging ideas with them can be a great support for your own path. Established HHU researchers share their own experiences on the path to academic independence and answer questions about applications, reviews and resetting after a rejected grant.
