In the German Academic System, there are numerous stakeholders who define the framework conditions for higher education and research, shape them and act in a trend-setting manner.
The seminar is intended to give researchers, university lecturers and science managers a basic overview of:
- the structure of the academic system,
- the tasks of the players involved
- academic law and political framework conditions and (constitutional) legal foundations
- research funding and project-related funding
- (political) developments and perspectives in the science system
- the interaction with European science funding
The functioning of existing structures will be explained through practical examples and field reports.
The aim of the workshop is for participants to know and be able to name the actors in the German science system. The participants will be able to classify and systematise political tasks and decisions that affect the German and European science system and use them for their own academic work.
Uta Brunner holds a doctorate in biology and is familiar with the German academic system for 20 years through her own academic and science-related activities. As an assistant to the Vice President for Research and Transfer at HHU, she was responsible for the application within the Excellence Initiative, the application for a research building and numerous internal university projects from 2010 to 2014. Since 2014, she has been working in graduate education and is responsible for the conception and implementation of qualification programmes for postgraduate researchers at HHU's Junior Scientist and International Researcher Center (JUNO).
